The highly anticipated Nintendo Direct happened for the first time in 2022 today. There was a bunch of news and we wanted to give a quick summary of the games they revealed to us all.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes trailer was the first on the list of games, which seems to come off as a Dynasty Warriors spin-off games similar to Hyrule Warriors. This is a reach into a different space taking you away from turn based gameplay the classic titles bring you. This could be refreshing to some! This title releases June 24th, 2022.
Mario Strikers: Battle League
The next big title on the line up was Mario Strikers: Battle League. The cinematic leads with clean graphics in the Mario World, lead by some smooth rock and battle between the Mushroom Kingdom and Boswer’s gang. This game seems to have a lot packed into it. Starting with 5 v 5 gameplay, the game incorporates items, tackling and specials to spice things up on the Soccer field. If that’s not enough cosmetics will be an option for your character, that not only changes their physical appearance but also their abilities/attributes. Up to 8 players can play locally and this can also be brought to the online realm, which I find really great for those looking for their next home party. Mario Strikers: Battle League releases June 10th.
Splatoon 3
Ahhhh the game I’ve been waiting for, Splatoon 3. This is basically the only Nintendo title that involves shooting so I love it. This reveal like the past ones comes off a little vague not really showing too much of the game. But one thing is clear: they are showing off the PvE side of the game which they announced will also be playable in Co-Op. Seems like you will go up against classic waves of enemies followed by a boss. They called it the Salmon Run. Excited to see what this is all about and can’t wait to hear more about the PvP as well. Splatoon 3 launches this Summer.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Kirby! Our round pink friend is making his way into the scene with a newly released open world title: Kirby and the Forgotten Land. This game looks beautifully done with a feeling of Mario Odyssey with it’s openness. Kirby has his classic ability to suck things in and use enemy powers but in a different way through an inventory system. Don’t quote me on that, but that’s about what it looked like. Not only that but there is a new way that Kirby operates with his Mouth Modes. He can suck up inanimate objects and create new abilities such as Car Mode, Vending Mode and Cone Mouth, these are only a few, there are plenty more. This should add a brand new dynamic to the game. Expect this release on March 25th, 2022.
Nintendo Switch Sports
NINTENDO SWITCH SPORTS, This cannot be happening, maybe I missed the memo on this being in the works but it was a great surprise! They are bringing back the classic modes tennis, bowling, and Chambara. On top of that they are adding three new game modes to the space. First, is Soccer which also comes with a secondary mode Shootout which you can get a leg attachment for. Badminton is the second game mode newly introduced, which incorporates accurate hitting in order to get the birdie across the net. Lastly, Volleyball, where you serve bump, set and spike the ball in this high paced mode. Supports local play as well as online play. This releases on April 29th, 2022.
Mario Kart 9?!
This wasn’t a joke?! It was, they are releasing new maps and from old titles with graphic revamps as well as possible new ones. This is a paid DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition. The name of the DLC is the Booster Course Pass ($24.99 USD) - which will release 48 new courses over 6 waves. Set to start wave #1 March 18th.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was the last of the large trailers to release. This was all cinematic and I won’t go super in depth, because I don’t actually play the games! Plus the trailer did nothing to flex gameplay making it slightly confusing for those who have never played it. Xenoblade is set to release September 2022.
That is all there was in terms of the larger releases in my opinion. We also listed all the games below for you to buckle up for! Feel free to take a look and also tell us in the comments which you are looking forward to the most. Until next time, keep it real and keep on gaming gamers.
